Council Staff Spotlight featuring COO Andrew Davis

This month we’re featuring the Council’s COO, Andrew Davis. Andrew is an accomplished executive, advocate, and strategist in early care and education; Davis brings over 20 years of experience and focuses on continuous improvement. Education has played an integral part in my family’s story. Education opened the door to opportunities for my father, who, after being born to a blind, single mother in extreme poverty on the island of Antigua, leveraged those opportunities to pursue new opportunities abroad. So, education was the pathway to the United States for my family. As a young boy from the Caribbean, education was the means through which my generation and the next generation flourished. So, for me, education and opportunities for social mobility are inextricably linked, which is why this work is so important to me.

I have been in the ECE field for about 20 years. My background is in product development, marketing and sales. Still, I have always been driven by lending my talents to causes. I started my ECE career around the same time my youngest daughter was born, and it has helped me become a better parent and advocate. I was growing and learning in this field as she was growing and learning.

Family is significant to me. My wife and I are blessed to have 3 children, one daughter-in-law and one grandson. When I am not working, I am with them and our extended family. One of my hobbies is making short films and family movies. I also enjoy telling stories with music, as I was a DJ during my college days.

I’m so excited to be a part of the Council and to carry on the rich tradition of ensuring a quality workforce for the field. I do not take this stewardship lightly. I am eager to learn from our entire ecosystem – our candidates, current and former CDA holders, professional development specialists, and those considering this field as a career path – about how we can improve each year.
